Hello,

many years ago Rich Anderson was kind enough to photo copy and send me the 1942 1:50k Topo maps M-37 and M-38 the southern half's. I know they come from the Library of Congress. Would anyone know where I could purchase the full set of these maps so I can continue to pin point location on the map to plot the movement of II.SS.Pz.Korps without having to go to the Library itself. I'm in Germany atm and wont be back in North America for another 2 years and there is no way possible to convince my wife that I need to take a trip to the Library of Congress for a few days. She near flipped out when I gave her the price for a few rolls of Microflims. Anyways enough babel from me.

Any information would be appreciated.

PS: I currently have the 1:100k Topo maps from the early 80's but they are not detailed enough and trying to match spot elevations, it's very hard. Example hill 220.5 behind the Anti-tank ditch in front of LSSAH opening day assault is not even shown, kind of pointless using the 100k maps.

Regards

Dave Esposito

We can probably copy them again and send them to you. Of course, there will by copying and postage charges. Email me.

If that doesn't work I can email you the 100:000 map from 1941. I think it shows what you need.

You can also download them to Google Earth from http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/ubbthreads.php?ubb=postlist&Board=28&page=1

Use the forum search (not the Google search box at the top but the forum search option below it) and type in "Kursk battlefield map" (use the quotes). You'll see the four files. That should give you the four files. There're very detailed and it's neat to look at them in Google Earth where you can easily zoom in, use the distance measurement tool, etc. You can even see the modern elevations.

Thanks Gary. I actually took care of it for a change.

There is a big difference in the detail between the 1:50000 scale maps and the 1:100000 scale maps, especially as a lot of the hill and height names that both sides call out in their reports are only on the 1:50000 scale maps.

Gary,

Thanks for the info about the maps on Google earth. I have been trying to do what you send me with my maps. The landscape has not really changed that much except for housing expansion. The color maps really help.

Thanks all very much for helping me out. I'm trying to convince my wife to let me tack the maps on the wall in the computer room so I can have a better overall view...its not going so well.
