I've seen the very large WWII map holdings at the Library of Congress, but does LoC have any document archives dealing with the Soviet/German front? I heard that LoC may have been given some ex-Soviet general's personal archive after he died. Also, did the Brits capture any German military documents? Thanks

The microfilm is at the national archives, not the Library of Congress. Unless someone knows of microfilm at LoC??

The Library of Congress is said to try to contain every book that was published. I checked their cataloger site and they have many, many military history books.K

The library is suppose to contain every book published in the US. They also make an effort to collect those published elsewhere. I'm not sure what percentage of those published overseas especially in languages other than english they have. With the new publish on demand publishers it's making it even more dificult. The overseas vanity press books are also an area where they might be missing some. The national archives on the other hand have a great deal of very intersting info that was not necessarily "published" as a book.

The British did capture German military documents, and those are available at Kew. E.g. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/displaycataloguedetails.asp?CAT LN=6&CATID=5417992&j=1 or here: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/displaycataloguedetails.asp?CATLN=6&CATID=5427858 All the best Andreas [This message has been edited by Andreas (edited 12-04-2006).]
