As for Harrison, I’ve heard things about Harrison’s last book, but haven’t been told exactly why it’s considered critically flawed. I do know he has some dated views about the German combined arms concept, so his comparisons do little good.

Looks like I may have to eat my words. I just purchased Harrison's book, and I think it's worth reading. I haven't started it just yet, but I did want to see about this "problem" Harrison had with the definition of blitzkrieg (something stated from a US military book review). Well, all I can say is the reviewer was wrong - and so was I. Harrison's definition of blitzkrieg as strategy is correct, in my opinion. I look forward to reading it.

Greg,

Actually I started reading it also, and am a couple of chapters into it.

It is not unusual for reviewers to be in error. I have seen some "qualified" reviewers make some major errors.
The prevelence of "whoever" reviewers, like on Amazon.com, can really lead to some strange statements.

I have not looked into the specific issue of "Blitzkreig".

What is the title of this book that you speak off?

"The Russian Way of War: Operational Art, 1904-1940" by Richard W. Harrison (University Press of Kansas, 2001).

While it is unique in scope, it is not going to be the definitive work on the subject. I would not recommend it for the casual reader.
