I'm studying the life of my father who was an Officer of the Hungarian Army during the WWII, he went prisioner of the US Army at the Rhinland area.
I have two papers from this period, which are:
1. Clinical Record Brief Form 56 A from the 8278 th.ST.Hosp. Germany dated 2nd. Jan.1946
Question: Where was located this hospital and to which Militar Unit it was part?

2. Certificate of Discharge - Control Form D2, which on the other side has the title of MEDICAL CERTIFICATE,dated 16 April 1946,
having two signatures, one from DONALD C. STERNER - Captain M.C. and the other L.Brown Capt. Inf., with a stample of HEADQUARTERS OFFICIAL 627th.field Artillery Btn. It has cancelations like PW716 Goppingen Discharge Office, Göppingen 17 April 1946.
Questions:
a)To which US Army I shall consider that the 627th. Field Artillery Btn was part?
b) There is anyone who can put me in contact with the family of both US Officers who signed this Medical Certificate?
c) PW 716 - what does it means?
Many thanks

If his certificate of discharge was at Goppingen, then it is likely the Station Hospital was probably somewhere near there. By that time I believe, the US Seventh Army had taken over administrative control of all US Army units remaining in Germany. More details on the location of the hospital would take an extensive search of the records.

Again, the 627th FA would have been subordinate to Seventh Army. I imagine that "PW 716" was either the identification of the prisoner of war camp at Goppingen, or possibly an identification number for your father. I'm afraid I can't advise you on how to contact the family of those officers though.

Dear Rich,
Many thanks for your prompt reply.
Could you indicate if there are some records how the American Army organized the German Prisioner Camps? I'm looking for the Bretzenheim POW Camp´, located at the city of Bad Kreuznach - Germany, which was established at early 1945.
Yours cordially, Geza Arbocz
