For anyone interested, the original HERO Land Warfare Database created for the US Army Center for Army Analysis in 1983 is available on-line.

Volumes 2 through 6 (i.e. the data) of the HERO report "Analysis of Factors that have Influenced Outcomes of Battles and Wars: A Data Base of Battles and Engagements," are available free through the Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC) website.
